WAJO-The Tempe Lake, an ancient lake, in the south peninsula of Sulawesi island Indonesia is writhing. The Tempe Lake Festival (FDT) 2024 is targetting 20.000s tourists as Anjas Asmarah, the Youth, Sport and Tourism Office local officer-- told media on Tuesday August the 20th, 2024.
In five recent years, data says, there is a fluctuating annual number of visitors on the Festival. There were 12.000s visitors on the 2019 edition, meanwhile 2020 and 2021 editions were cancelled due to pandemic and lockdown nationwide in effort to reduce the spread of pandemic.
The 2022 FDT edition was back with 11.200s tourists when the world gradually began to forget Covid-19, and a breakthrough happened on the 2023 FDT edition with 16.800s visitors. Anjas told media, so did Asrianty, another Youth, Sport and Tourism Office local officer in Wajo, South Sulawesi. She confirmed the information.
The 2024 Tempe Lake Festival to take place in two zones. It will take place in the lake itself --in Assorajang Village, District of Tanasitolo--, as well as in town of Sengkang near the tectonic lake well-known its endemic species of freshwater fish. The fish are tilapia fish, fish cork, shoal fish, goldfish, anglerfish, java berb, catfish and shrimp.
Harmony of Lake Tempe is the theme of the Festival on this shallow lake. On the other hand the lake is a research area for scientists and a conservation area for environmental activists.
The Youth, Sport and Tourism Office in Wajo released that The 2024 Tempe Lake Festival will take place on August the 23rd, 2024 till August the 28th, 2024. Decorative Boat Contest, Rowing Boat Race and Motorized Boat Race would be events in the lake.
A numerouse contest will be held such as Photo Competition, Sengkang Fashion Carnival, FDT Idol, Cooking Contest, Silk Design Motif Competition, Hijab Fashion Show for Kids, Porprov (Sulsel Games) XVIII Logo Design Contest, Singing Contest, Silk Fashion Show, Traditional Dress Fashion Show, Art Performance and Creative Dance Competition.
Tempe Lake has an area of around 13,000 hectares. It is the largest freshwater fish producer in the world. It looks like a giant basin from the sky perspective. The lake is not only a source of livelihood for Wajo fishermen, but also for Soppeng and Sidrap ones.
"One of the Government's efforts and a form of Government commitment is to introduce and to promote Lake Tempe tourism by annual FDT event held on August the 23th," said Anjas.
